Seven or more people organised for charity, education, culture, or sport.
Societies are registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and state amendments. A memorandum and rules are filed with the Registrar of Societies.
A society has its own legal identity: it can hold property, open a bank account, and contract. Funds cannot be shared among members.
